I hope someone can help. I have got an old Toshiba laptop with windows xp still works great.
However, in a fit of rage today, my OH punched the back of the screen and the screen has now gone. I could still see half but its all gone different colours now like almost fragmented:mad:
I have got important files on this laptop, letters, things for work and precious family pictures. can I get this fixed and hopefully not costing too much??
hope someone can help me. thanks

You can replace the screen, but it might be worth more than the laptop itself. Trawl eBay for a spare part and you might find for less than £300

Does the laptop have a connector for an external monitor?
If so, that might be the easiest way to get it running enough to copy your important data off it - onto DVD,USB stick or some other device.
Then you can look into getting OH to fix it!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. most laptops can be plugged into a monitor or tv( via lead) this may be used if you cant get a screen to get back your stuff,0

As above - have you got a spare monitor or does your TV have a VGA connector (the Toshiba should have a VGA connector but may not have an HDMI connector).
One of these will be needed http://www.maplin.co.uk/1m-vga-monitor-cable-5080970 -
And once you've done all of that, back up the important stuff to a memory stick or external drive/DVD etc.0

I would be very concerned about a partner who flew into violent rages myself, what if he goes for you next time? Laptop can be fixed or screen bypassed ...................0
