Real life MMD: She broke my phone — should I make her pay?

@Everyone: I don't understand why there's such a big fuss against the phone and the OP. She bought a phone; weather she paid £1million or £10 for it is not anyone's business. And there are so many ignorant people questioning the cost of the phone..
Just for everyone's information, right off the top of my head, I can think of two phones that cost £500.
1. The Apple iPhone 4s (note that all new apple phones, when they release, cost £499.
2. The HTC One X.
You even get phones encrusted with crystals that cost over £1000.
@OP: You can't make her pay. Just graciously accept the old phone. It must hurt a lot, I know, I've saved up for months to buy my phone to use on a PAYG sim. But that's why I spent £25 for a rock solid case & £7 pm for insurance. And that case has saved my phone from a 5 foot drop. OtterBox. Not a scratch. Just out of curiosity, what phone do you have?Living off £450 per month is easy...! If you aren't single! :j0 -
Someone learnt an important lesson regarding why phones have a 'vibrate only' mode. On which point I might add that every office I ever worked in, it was policy that people turn the ringer off on their personal mobile - something which would have prevented this incident in the first place as it wouldn't have been ringing and then your co-worker wouldn't have felt the need to pick it up and silence it.
And I agree with those who said that such an expensive mobile phone should have been insured.0 -
I have a phone worth around that much , but it is a contract phone I have to say, lots of people have phones of that cost these days.
I don't have insurance with the mobile company (which I now regret and will be doing so next up-date) ,but it is covered on house insurance.
I guess an accident is an accident no matter how upsetting or annoying.
However the problem I have with this (sorry if already mentioned but can't read all posts) ...is that on another thread the OP is stating she shouldn't pay for a broken tea pot that she broke.........so should an accident be paid for or not???........u can't have it both ways surely.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0
