B&Q or Howdens

I am looking to update my kitchen units by buying replacement doors, plinths worktops etc.

I have seen some that I like in B&Q and can get 10% off if I go with MIL as she is over 60, but can also get them from Howdens as I know someone who has a card and will let me use it.

I wondered if anyone could advise whether Howdens are cheaper for kitchen doors etc than B&Q?

  • Its difficult to say who will be cheaper in this buyers market. Get quotes from both then start playing them off against each other

I have been down this road about a year ago myself and had very much the same questions at that time. It was quite a scary time for me as is a lot of money. In my experience I would not get a kitchen from B&Q as in my opinion they are of inferior quality. Howdens seems to be good but you will pay a lot of money for it and they don't want to know if you are not a fitter. Your fitter will buy it for you but no doubt will add his own cut on for the privilege...

I found diy kitchens and stockpile kitchens both good as are setup for just doing everything direct to the public. I ended up going for stockpile as they were able to bore the doors for me which saved a lot of problems and time and the price was a lot cheaper. I hope this helps as is still quite fresh in my mind and found it quite a stressful time, good luck and I hope this helps.

Howdens are more expensive, and the wood is the same thickness as the B&Q stuff.

The only difference is the Howdens ones are ready made where as the B&Q ones are flat packed, so slightly better quality.

In my opinion, the difference in price is not worth the small increase in quality, but if you can afford howdens, go for Howdens.

Hi, I am only replacing the doors etc as the kitchen I have was expensive so the carcasses are still in good condition, it is only a couple of the doors that are damaged

Does anyone think that B&Q will have a sale on over the Easter holidays? I dont know whether to buy now and get the 10% discount or wait and see if they offer more
  • I imagine they will promote sale on over Easter. Weather that means you will get it cheaper than what you can at the moment is another story
