Removing IE7 Security Notifications

Hello.

I would be grateful if someone could help me out here.

Several of the websites I use for e-mail and services at Uni and other places prompt IE7 to bring up a page saying "There is a problem with the site's security certificate". I have the option to either close the window or continue. This is all fine, but it does get annoying when I'm in a hurry.

I disabled the warning, but then I have this annoying information bar at the top saying there is a problem with Internet Explorer's security settings. I can't get rid of it unless I 'fix' the 'problem' which puts me back to square one. I also disabled the notification that pops up whenever you try to open a downloaded file, but that also brings up the security information bar.

Is there a way to disable just that notification? I like the info bar, particularly when it advises me that a pop-up's been blocked or an ActiveX control wants to load, but the security warning stays up all the time and won't go away. I love Ie7 but this is getting annoying.

Thanks.

Hussein.

  • Can you set specific site preferences such as cookie acceptace etc that may include accepting the certificate from the sites you trust?

  • If you've got a USB flash drive, you can install Portable Firefox on it. It's handy for the likes of uni machines so you can keep your bookmarks in one place and avoid using IE.

I use the internet extensively and get such messages once or twice a year.

If you are using websites where that is a common occurrence I'd be concerned about the website & the company behind it

In alot of colleges unis for example they use proxy servers so you need to know the ip address of that plus the port you can gain access to.
  • You can usually find out the proxy details on your uni's intranet though, or from other students.

Hi. I would rather not use firefox as it doesn't work with my screen reader.

OK, if you go to https://www.csd.abdn.ac.uk/webmail with IE7 you'll find you get the security certificate message. I added that URL to trusted sites, and put security on low, but still it comes up. any way to disable that message, and then the security warning that IE pops up in the information bar (when it detects the certificate prompt is disabled).

Hi. I found out that this is a bug in IE7. when the "There is a problem with this website's security certificate" message appears, there should be an information bar that pops up and you can import the certificate into IE7 after which it won't bother you again. but that bar doesn't appear for me. You cannot 'cancel' that warning within IE7.

I guess this is going to be something that the department have to sort out, there's nothing I can do from here unless they actually send me a copy of their certificate for me to import.
