Wimpy (mis)pricing

Visited Wimpy in a service area yesterday. My boyfriend and I generally order a meal deal and an extra burger, we then share the chips and the drink. While waiting to order yesterday, I worked out if it made any difference which burger we added the meal deal to - and, surprisingly, it did - by £1.40. So my boyfriend carefully ordered his burger with the meal deal and then added on the burger I wanted. We were charged the higher price. We challenged this with the cashier as we thought she had entered it incorrectly. Turns out it doesn't matter which way she puts it through the till, it always works it out to Wimpy's advantage. She just handed us back the £1.40 without any argument which made me think we are not the first to challenge the pricing.

Surely this has to be a case of mis-leading pricing ? Whatever it is, if you are buying from Wimpy, I advise you to take a few minutes and work out you are being charged to your advantage and not to their's.

This probably comes down to how you purchase the items.

Many companies offer a discount when x items are purchased. If you do not purchase x items, e.g, you purchase x items plus or minues one, the you are not buying the stated items.

It is similar to bogof deals where the lowest price item is free. If you buy 2 at £10 and tow at £5 in one transaction, you will get charged £20. If you buy them separate, you will be charged £15. The same has happened to you.

It is stupid in practical terms. You are buying the same items, yet how you purchase them (all in one or separately) will determine the price.

the moral is to check the small print.

I recall that Boots have cracked it with their 3 for 2 deals where if you buy 6 items they do not charge for the 3rd and 6th ranked items. So it can be done !!
