Hi

tried to book an advance single to glasgow for 21st june today.

Horrified to discover that its now £60, bit of a shock that its gotten that much more expensive than this time last year when it cost £30.

Even more of a kick in the teeth when I only paid £75 first class return in september.

This actually makes it cheaper to drive.

Any advice?

Ta

    You don't say where from.

Did you have an 'Advance' ticket last time? Cheaper advance tickets for 21/6 won't be available for a few days yet. Alternatively, are you looking at travelling in rush hours this time when you travelled off peak last time?

Sorry, from Wigan North Western. Traveling between 9:30 and 10:30 am.

I didn't realise the advance tickets weren't out yet, I thought they were available on the first day of sale.

    Thanks

It probably won't make you feel any better but it's actually 'only' 100% more expensive. :p

Recently did Manchester -> Glasgow, we went on Trans Pennine which was cheaper than Virgin (but runs less often). Check both train companies' websites seperately to make sure as often they have prices on their sites that are different to that on national rail.

In hindsight, I didn't mean 200% more expensive.

Don't ask me what I meant, 200% something. Just seething at the potential cost of this short break.

    2012% discounts my !!!!!

Just checked Transpennine the prices are the same.

Here's hoping for the advance tickets then.
