Is it possible to.....?

Hello I would like to know if it is possible for me to transfer a programme I downloaded to a new laptop. If it is how can I do it?

I really do not want to pay for it again. I bought it 4 years ago and they do not have that version avaialble anymore - they have a new one but the original suits me just fine.

Thank you.

Except for the simplest programs , which are just a single file, it isn't usually possible to just transfer the program over by copying it - you will need to run the install program again ( assuming you kept it stored).

    What program is it ?

It is called Bridge Buff and I do not have a disc - just paid to download it. Oh well I will have to keep the old laptop just for that then or cough up for a new version.

    Thanks anyway.

It may be worth contacting the company.

I did this a few years back (with a different product) when I had a hard disk failure, and the company just sent me a new activation code. Worth a try?

Did you save a copy of the original download file?

You could then transfer that no problem.

What normally happens when you download a program is that you download an installation file. For instance picasa38-setup.exe.
You then run this setup program to install the program to your PC - in this example the picasa photo editor. At this point the setup program may ask for an activation code if you paid for the program.

If you still have a copy of the setup program, probably in My Documents> Downloads and you know the activation code (if there is one) then all you have to do is transfer the set-up program to the new PC and of course run it.
