Advice on blinds for a wide window..

Good Afternoon
I am struggling with finding a blind for our sitting room.
Our window is very wide, 2.9m and has a 1.5m drop.
I figured wooden blinds would be out of the question due to the weight, seems even an 'extra wide' made to measure wood blind only goes up to 2.4m.
All the neighbours have what I call office blinds, those vertical / tilt fabric ones - I dislike them as I am surrounded by them at work and always clipping them back in when the wind blows.
The only option it seems is aluminium blinds.
Big concern though is the strength.
The sofa has to go in front of the widow and we have a 2yr old who likes to peep out the widow. I can see her grabbing a handful of weak aly slats and bend them to bits
Is there such thing as stronger aly blinds?
My mum has one in her kitchen and it is really quite flimsy and would look rubbish in no time with our two kids.
We cannot have just curtains, we are south facing and the sun is very intense - bleach furniture / carpets, plus passers by will see the TV which OH is paranoid about...
If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
Thanks

How about two or three overlapping roller blinds?

I have a 3M window with a join in the middle, so I can get away with two side-by-side.

Paper roller blinds are cheap as chips.

    Mortgage-free Glee!
I have a very bright window facing onto the road, and its also too wide for wooden blinds, previous owners had the hideous office blinds....

Have you though about two sets of curtains? I have thin (let light through but not too easy to see through) white curtains and then heavy evening curtains. IKEA make a double curtain rail, got my curtains from IKEA at the same time!

    Works for me!

we have roller blinds on our bedroom window of a similar size. Put them up a few months ago & they still seem to be doing well ! We bought them from these guys

or, would wooden shutters work? something like plantation shutters or proper georgian type ones?

Depends on the window type tbh. If there's a split in the window, you might be able to get away with 2 rollers. If like mine there's no split....well...

Don't know about the weight issue, but then again, I don't fancy venetians. I'm actually thinking about going for verticals with the split in middle so I can open them.

  • Hi... i recently too had the same problem... i was looking for blinds to co-ordinate troughout the house and two windows are 249cm, and likeyou could only find wooden blinds of up to 240cm. I searched and searched online and came across faux wooden blinds! These are not only cheaper but have the wood grain etffect and have a chunky look to them - we got them in 50mm width slabs due to the width, it really suits them - very happy! will happily reccomend the website...
