Giving tablet to a cat - getting desperate!!!

Cat wrapped in towel, pill down the throat. They soon forget it and get a wee treat afterwards. It's the only way we can do it with Misty, but now as soon as she sees the towel she knows and tries to hide. The moodiness doesn't last long with her, can always be bought with a little tuna or pate

thank you all again for your suggestions. I think all is not well with our senior lady, she's hardly eaten anything in the past few days. Yesterday only few biscuits and few prawns - and all of these were thrown up a bit later in the kitchen and living room floor. Although she seems happy enough in herself, she does appear to be tired and clingy. I bought few cat treats, including the Whiskas one suggested, which would be soft enough to hide the tablet but she's not interested - one sniff and she turns her head away (this is even without the tablet).
She seems to have a lot of dandruf in her coat which she's had little while now.
Will take her to the vets next week to see if there anything they suggest.0 -
have you tried sardines or pilchards? My eldest Patch, was happily taking his thyroid tablets in tuna (had to be in oil
though). But a couple of months ago he had a tumour in his bladder (which has been removed) and we now also have to give him metacam once a day. Would he take it with the tuna - NO he turned his nose up and walked away. so i experimented with sardines, pilchards and mackeral (again i only buy in oil). I mix metacam with a bit of the meat but a lot of the juice. Whilst he is lapping that up i squash some more meat around the tyroid tablets and plonk it on his plate.
he is taking all his medicines every day using this method and as long as I keep rotating every few days the fish - he seems to be happy :j0 -

If she is not taking her tablets, this could account for the vomiting, flaky skin and attention seeking as they all are symptoms of hyperthyroidism. It sounds a good plan to take her to the vet for a check up and T4 or full thyroid panel to see if all is under control or the dose needs adjusting. May be worth asking the vet about vidalta (unless you have already tried) as that is only 1 tablet a day.
Re. the tablets, some of mine are easy and 'down the hatch' is fine. With the others the only thing that is foolproof (so far) is wrapping the tablet in roast chicken skin. Not very MSE but it even works with more bitter tasting meds like steroids which aren't always coated.0 -
Can I just ask.....are you giving her one tablet twice a day, or two tablets once a day???0

our cat was on thyroid tablets. She was semi feral and we tried hiding it in food etc but it didn't work. The only thing she liked was a small amount of cheese so in the end we cut a v v small cube, slit it and put the tablet in. I didn't think about mackerel or tuna.
Even the vet had problems getting her to swallow the tablet. He put if far back in her mouth and then popped it down her throat. She ended up biting his finger! The nurses always seemed to manage though. The Cabbage

You could try putting them in the freezer, it takes the taste away.0

It's should be 2 tables per day (2 x 5mg); one in the morning, one in the evening.
At the moment she's just not having anything. Last night she only ate 3 small miniscule cubes of raw tuna (her favourite).
Took her to the vets last night and they've taken a blood sample - waiting for results.
Otherwise she's very bright in herself - if it wasn't for her not eating I would not think there's anything wrong with her.0
