Unsure if I have ever been sold PPI?

Hi all,
I got a call yesterday from one of these PPI claims companies that seem to be all the rage these days.
I told them where to go, but wondered why that had contacted me. I have never had a loan, but having told a few people about it they said it could be lots of other things...store cards, mortgage, credit cards...all of which I have or have had at some point. Are there any other things that may have had PPI on them?
How on earth do I find out whether any of these things had PPI on them? Most old credit cards and things I had are long gone, no paperwork etc.
There must be a reason why this company called me. Its got me thinking...
Would a credit check on myself show up any clues?
Aside from contacting everyone I can think of who I had some kind of credit with, I dont really know where to start
Many thanks in advance
Dan

Hi Dan
You could try contacting the companies directly, the ones where you did have finance with them, and they should confirm.
A credit report would show finances taken out over the last 6 years, I believe either Experian or Equifax will go to the last 10 years etc.
Google it in, they cost £2 for a full report.
The other way would be to request the paperwork under a Subject Access Request (SAR) but this would cost £10 cheque or postal order for each business, for example, if you had say 3 credit cards with the same business then one SAR with the one off above stated payment per letter of all accounts taken out with that one particular business.

The link above is a SAR template letter, but this is of course optional, it could be worth contacting them with your account number of each account, or your personal details where they may ask security questions before they give any details, but may save you a bit of money that way.
If you do find you were sold PPI and been mis sold the product, do not use a claims company, have a go yourself with help from this site all free, if you succeed you get to keep all your refund.
It is only a matter of completing a reclaim questionnaire, this was issued by the Financial ombudsman service (FOS) for customers to use to make a complaint/reclaim to the business that set up and sold the product/account, keep copies for yourself as well, in case you need to refer back to them again at some point.
Hope this info help.
Step 3 below is the link to questionnaire, good luck.

Thats because its an easy way to rip people off. No qualifications, no experience, virtually no regulation and anyone can be set up in a week to be called a claims company. You then cold call people, tell a bunch of porkies to them and play on their greed by dropping hints of big amounts of money and then use a one-size-fits-all template letter that takes 30 seconds to generate and then sit back and wait to be paid x% of any redress. There must be a reason why this company called me.

These cold callers. Are they just taking pot luck on any old numbers, or should I suspect I am owed somehitng and are therefore on some list that they have got hold of?0
