Swift cover policies are not worth the paper they write on.
Cancel the insurance and buy some from a reputable company.

No, I didn't see anything about monthy VED payments
1.206 The Government will consider whether to reform VED over the medium term, to ensure that all motorists continue to make a fair contribution to the sustainability of the public finances, and to reflect continuing improvements in vehicle fuel efficiency. In addition, the Government aims to develop a direct debit system to allow motorists to spread their VED payments. Perhaps its just a cheaper (for the government) alternative for those who currently opt to pay every 6 months?

Why wouldn't they accept the ammended insurance?
What you have done sounds like the correct way, to transfer the insurance from the old car to the new car, and print out a valid policy and schedule showing you are insured to drive the new car.

Perfectly valid insurance, and quite an acceptable company to be insured with to comply with the legal requirements in the uk.

Staffs at the Car Pound said Switchcover does not allow its insurance certificate to be used for releasing seized vehicle.

It is a complex situation because some insurance certificates are accepted while some others are not - unfairness and inequality encouraged.
