Letting Agent Tax Return query..

I've been letting my two bedroom terrace back in the UK since last August, switched it to a buy to let mortgage shortly before this.
Currently renting it out at £475 gross (receiving £418 pcm nett, after agents fees and VAT).
Agent has now sent me a letter asking if I would like them to assist in filing my end of year tax return. My question to those knowledgeable souls on these fora, is what kind of fee should I be "realistically" be charged for this. (Forewarned is forearmed!!).
Thanks for help in advance,

Harry

whoa there a minute - your post implies you are no longer resident in the UK

if that uis the case then have you notifed HMRC of that fact and have you registered for the Non Resident landlord scheme??

    http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/international/nr-landlords.htm

legally the LA is required to deduct basic rate tax from the rent (after their fee) if you are not scheme registered.

The LA submitting your tax return for you is a can a worms, what qualifications do they have to do so? why would you want or trust them to know your other financial affairs so that the tax return is correct - remember even if you are non Uk resident you are still required to disclose financial info that i would not want a LA to know - get an independent accountnat to do it for you or learn to do it yourself - if you only have one property and your other financial affors are straighforward then the SA return is easy

an accountant should charge a fixed fee for a return - can't give rates but expect a range of £100 - £300
