  • Read the manual that came with the router :) It will explain how to set up WEP or WPA encryption security on the router using the administration panel! Very easy to do when following it :)

You set a code and then on your pc you put the code in to connect it :) No one can access your network without that code

You need to secure your netowork anyway, that's just being responsible for yourself and your information.
You need to enable WEP or WPA encryption on your wireless router and set a password, then connect up from your computer with the password.
Your computer's network card will have it's own unique MAC address. You can also use "MAC address filtering" and set your router to only enable your MAC address to connect.

(You have got antivirus software and a firewall turned on I take it)

To take this a little bit further wpa is more secure than wep also have a look at this page, it'll generate a secure password for you. https://www.grc.com/passwords.htm.
Change the default password for your router, username too if you can.
If you want something to listen to have a search on this page for wifi security http://www.grc.com/securitynow.htm be warned though, this chap is a serious tin foil hat chap and can take things to the extreme.
