Changing CC statement date?

Hi,

I'm just wondering if there is any way that you can request that your credit card statement date is changed?

My statement is produced on 2nd of the month and is due around the end of the month. However, the earliest I can pay is the 19th as this is when I get paid and this is the date I have always made payment. I now realise that this is not good in terms of accruing interest.

I would have no problems reserving money between 19th of one month and 2nd of the following month to pay it when the statement is made, but that would require me to initially make two payments out of one months' wages in order to do this, as another statement would have been produced by the time I got paid (i.e. I have paid my 2nd March statement on 19th out of this month's wage, but would need to pay again on 2nd April, also out of this month's wage). Obviously following months would be fine as I would be in the routine of holding back the money to pay just once a month on 2nd.

Would a credit card company change a statement date or is their no choice regarding this?

Thanks in advance :)

they may change the statement date but wont change the date your liable for interest. The only way around it is to pay over the odds to get in front with your payments.
  • Ahhh, I thought as much. I think I will just save a month's payment over the next few months and then get myself in sync with my statement date.

    Thanks.

MBNA used to do this, not sure if they still do. You could change the statement date and the pay-by date would move too. Don't know how they handled the transition. An operator offered to do it for me when I phoned up about something else. Didn't take them up and it was er.... a few years ago!

    Certainly worth a call.

I have a Barclaycard Platinum. One feature I like is they give me a whole month to pay. MBNA are now at the other extreme - I seem to get a couple of weeks plus the statement date moves around a bit.

I've certainly done this in the past - though as I don't carry a balance the interest date complication didn't come into it

If they do you'll get your normal statement to pay normally and then another 3 weeks later with the new payment date.

    Certainly worth asking
