Built in freeview

In laws have bought a hitachi lcd tv with built in freeview. From looking at the connections and the manual, there doesn't seem to be any way of connecting an unscrambled signal back to the VCR so that they can record something.

Any ideas??

I haven't used a tv with built in freeview but if you access it by going to av1 then can you connect a scart to the video and record from av1

Dealt with in reasonable depth at this thread. Suitable for occasional use, but you'll soon get fed up with only being able to record from a program you're wathching, so a cheap freeview box (from £20) might be a wise investment.

I have a Philips Freeview box and have a problem.

I cannot detect BBC 1 & 2 on the freeview box, but can watch both stations fine on the regular analog channel with freeview box turned off. Is this a problem with my aerial, shouldn't be since it picks it up.
What can I do to get the freeview box to recognize BBC 1 & 2?
    thanks

That an aerial can pick up analogue BBC1 & 2 does not mean that it will pick up the necessary digital multiplex which carries BBC1 & 2 as they are broadcast on different frequencies. Can you view BBC3, CBeebies or News24? They are all broadcast on the same multiplex as BBC1 and BBC2.

If not and you are using an analogue aerial for your area, it might be that your aerial is optimised for reception which doesn't cover the frequency for multiplex 1 in your area. Do you know what transmitter your TV signal is recieved from?

Yes as above you have two/three options.

one of your scart sockets will be bi-directional allowing you to record on the video whatever you are watching on the t.v. (not ideal)

The next is to buy a cheapy freeview box which is only connected to the video by scart - recording would be to set the video to the scart input as above but now you can also watch a different channel by using the t.v. tuner.

third is to buy a freeview pvr or a dvd recorded with freeview built in. These will allow you to get more flexibility from recording freeview but are the most expensive options.
