Savings have taken a bit of a dive today but have paid Orange a settlement and they've agreed to completely remove the default from my file asap :D
  • As far as i am aware, they can't remove a default from your credit report. The default will stay on there for the 6 year period. I may be corrected but from what i know companies cannot remove a default once it has been marked down.

This is incorrect. A company is able to remove a default at any time. I've just wrote to all my creditors to try and get mine removed as I need my file better ASAP.
    SAVINGS: £63.86 // £3,000

    How many creditors?

If the information recorded is factual, most won't entertain default removal.

Agreed with MusicalLawyer, this is incorrect. The company that placed the default on your file can remove it at any time.
  • I stand corrected :-)

Its tricky. I mean if companies just roll over because people ask they'd surely end up in all sorts of trouble, i'm not positive but surely it has to be a legal requirement for lenders to keep credit history updates accurate . Not saying all defaults are the same or deserved but its our word against theres.
Ive got 8 defaults all within 7 months in 2010 so i'm not in any way judging people with defaults, I just think you have to be realistic about the chances of getting them removed without there being mistakes on the other side or some sort of court order. Its impossible to virtually impossible.

IMO October, no chance, even if you did get them to remove it it would likely take till then to get it sorted. Again not being harsh just realistic.

    Couldn't agree more.

If the info they have recorded is accurate then there's no real reason for them to remove it. Sometimes, in a very small number of cases, lenders will agree to remove a default in return for full (or part) payment of a delinquent debt.

If you did default and want it removing just to "tidy up your credit file", I reckon 9.99999 times out of 10 you'll be disappointed.

In essence, I agree with what you're saying, however, as I said, I have their agreement in writing that the default is being removed within 7 working days. It was agreed as part of a settlement offer for a debt that they had already written off.

Thats all good then, just saying that its rare. A lot of people do come on here just expecting to be able to ask nicely and it will be done which is rarely the case.
I do however think in a case like yours, you were probably a bit immature and didnt understand the damage not paying a phonebill would do, not being able to buy a house because you didnt pay your mobile bill is harsh and phone companies dont try to get things sorted, 1,2,3,default.

Defaulting on 25k of credit cards like myself is different. It would not be fair to view us both in the same vein but it would probably happen.
Have heard of a few debt collectors removing debts for cash though, guess they dont really care if they are getting money.
Mine is a bit different in that they are all credit card defaults for substantial amounts.
