OH just bought a house, and I enquired by email with BG if our account was with them. That was the last I heard of it.
Went to the house today and there was a letter from them saying an account had been set up in my name. I did not even want it in my name, let alone with them! I wanted to go with some one more environmentally friendly.
What can I do? Is this binding?

If they were the previous supplier to the property then you would have had to set up an account with them before you could switch to anyone else anyway. So ask them to change the name on the account, then get on the comparison sites and switch.0

`Centrica, (BG`s parent company) was named as the country’s greenest energy supplier by the environment charity WWF-UK for the way we limit carbon dioxide emissions and manage our climate change risks.2005`

Try Ebico - a not-for-profit christian energy company who offer the lowest tariffs for all consumers regardless of payment methods. Ebico are doing a tremendous job, they're a sort of modern day Robin Hood without actually robbing anyone...., you'll probably understand what I'm referring to after you've read their FAQs.

British Gas Electricity Fuel Mix against UK average
Coal - 15% UK average is 33.4%
Natural Gas - 58% UK average is 39.3%
Nuclear - 22% Uk average is 20.6%
Renewable - 3% UK average is 3.8%
Other - 2% UK average is 2.9%
CO2 Emissions - 0.354 UK average is 0.461
Nuclear waste - 0.0026 UK average is 0.0025
Not bad on the CO2 but not a very good score on the renewable energy front. Try looking into Good Energy 100% from renewable sources apparently (no idea what prices are like though. There's also a company called Ecotricity that might be worth looking into. Personally I'm on Ebico with the Equi climate option.
Good luck with the green search

This is how change of tenancies are dealt with by the industry. You will be supplied with both gas and electricity from whomever was the supplier to the property at the time you moved in for a minimum of 28 days (this being the minimum contract term). If you so wish, put your request in to move suppliers and you should transfer after the 28 days is up

BG are the only big energy supplier to entirely meet their green power obligations in England, Scotland and Wales.
They are also investing £750m in renewable projects over 5 years.:money:0
