If I get a job do I pay benefits all back again ?

Hi I was alarmed today to get a letter related to my permitted work. As far as I can tell I can carry on permitted work provided it is lower permitted work.

ALSO-

I was shocked by this statement under a topic called More Information-

If you keep working and want to stop claiming benefit you must return all payments.

This is right at the end of a PW7 form which says other confusing things as well I think.

Do I have to pay back all my benefits if I get back into normal work eventually ? I no I'd have to pay taxes again but paying back everything I ever claimed is something I never realised.

Chances are I cannot work more than the 3 hours at present but if I found something I could manage to would I eventually have to pay back all my benefits ? I am on Incapacity benefit after year 2 of permitted work.

I would be relieved to know if anyone could help here ? I am rather worried as we all do I suppose on benefits sometimes.

Thanks all!

If you keep working at the permitted work higher level rates - then you may need to return any benefits paid after the 1 year anniversary of your first starting higher level, as you may not be entitled to them.

You do not have to pay back benefits in general.
  • Look lovey it's a PRECARIOUS Regime that they want you to have. On JSA preferably for n weeks then in work n weeks with all the hassle it involves.
They should at least have secure stable and permanent employment in order to get people off benefits.

Would you say it is a general letter that I have been given. Since they have in black and white on file I am doing lower permitted work. I got one of those forms which probably wants to cover all bases. It says-

Your permitted work will end for this years period then you can-

-Keep doing the work you are doing now, and stop getting benefit

    - Change your hours of work to reduce your earnings to £ or less, and keep getting benefit.

My words - £20 is the theory but not stated.

-Do support supported permitted work for earnings no more than £ a week for as long as you like.

My words- Probably higher permitted forever if you want with no benefit pay back.

So it incinuates I am doing higher permitted work. This is despite them confirming the year before I was doing lower permitted work. The problem may have arsien because it is the first piece of documentation- covering a two year period. ie they did not send it for year one. I have a feeling I need not worry as there is a box saying I can go back to lower permitted work to' tick it' . As I say I NEVER did higher permitted. I think legally I am allowed to do lower permitted again and then higher permitted after and back again to lower permitted. It is safer to stay on lower permitted probably with the conseratives up-heavel. I would be very pushed with my back problem to do 15 hours a week work.

Univeral credit eventually will be very interesting with all of this.

What are you opnions on what I am saying? Should I put in a covering letter reminding them I am still on lower permitted work as it may reflect badly on me later ? I did understood that if I was on higher permitted it was one year only they give you. It therefore makes sense about paying them back for the second year had I been doing that. Many thanks for telling me it makes much more sense now.

Any way should I enclose a covering letter ? Many thanks.

Ok - in that case - you should be able to keep doing it.
You need to return the form, and include a covering letter explaining you were never doing permitted work higher level.
Are you sure there wasn't a week in which you went over the 20?

Hi I have had another letter and a PW1 sent. In the letter is says that I am doing higher permitted work in fact. This is despite me not making any profit from my self employed business. I made £3000 from nearly 2 years (they were very late sending me anything to check it out). However my expenses for the business far out way my earnings. I have sent them the accounts to show this. For some reason they have not taken the expenses and losses and only looked at earnings. I have made no profit so I have not gone over the £20 a week permited work earnings. I read things on the net a while back that if no profit is made for self employment then this means you are not making £20 per week. Do any of you know how this stands currently ? Am I right or have I misunderstood information on the internet.

    Thanks very much.

    Thanks for helping.
