Xbox 360 Backup/Fault help needed!

EDIT: Below is the first problem. Lower down in this thread (3 posts down) is a new problem and worse. To do with returning to game. Please help!

First problem:

So my xbox 360 sometimes says "this game is unplayable, plesae clean the disc" or whatever... This is a known HARD DRIVE problem beleive it or not!

Tried playing the games without the hard disc in, they work fine. As soon as the hard disc is in i'm getting these crashes at least twice a day now (of about 2 hours play per day!)

its still under warranty with GAME and the manager said (before i tested) that he can swap the console with or without the hard drive no prob but make sure its not the hard drive first! Well, found out it is!

Now he can still swap it. Which is good. I have to do that really!

BAD is that I lose ALL my saved games. I'm not a pro gamer but i have 10 games and gone through most of them to at least the half way stage!

So can anyone advise what I should do? I've seen a device for £29.99 that lets you back things up but its not MS Official, and I don't want to pay for it to use once! (if anyone has one around the Stafford area that I could borrow one day, much appreciated)

Anyway, I've heard you can't even backup onto memory cards? So i'm posting here in hope really that some intelligent MSER has done it :)

Help

I take it that it's the xsata you were looking at? That will back everything up but, if it's a problem with the HDD, won't that backup the problem too?

You could always look at copying the saves onto a memory card for around £15. Not sure if that would hold all the saves though...

  • Ive researched that and a lot of the saves aren't transferrable to stop piracy :(

  • Ok new problem

GAME won't accept an exchange unless they see the fault! The problem is it occurs randomly and I can't guarentee that the fualt will happen the first time they test it! If it didn't then I'd be charged or they wouldn't exchange it!

!!!!!! am i meant to do? Its an MS known fault !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They said pictures of the fault won't do, and CS recommended that I "Take it in several times until the fault does happen"

However, it usually happens during xbox live play! (though it is a hard drive known fault!)

    Anyone got any ideas?

    HERE's a written summary:

    Stafford Store Early Feb:
Manager told me to bring in console and he’d do a straight swap for me though I must diagnose problem first.

    Stafford Store 26th Feb 2007
Deputy Manager told me they must see the fault before they can do a swap. The fault however randomly occurs and may only happen during certain events (such as using xbox live) even though this is a hard drive fault!!!!!! They won’t test using xbox live, and they won’t do an exchange without seeing the fault. Told to ring CS.

Phone Call to CS 26th Feb 2007 at 11:15am
After 25 minutes of waiting period on an 0871 number (very disappointed), I was told that the deputy manager is correct and they have to see the fault. The only suggestion “Alex” had was that “I take the console in several times until the fault occurs”.

Looking at consumer rights I see:
If you've got a problem with something you've bought:
    • Inform the supplier quickly and let them know why you're complaining
    • Keep a written note of phone calls or emails you've had
If you feel that you've entered into a contract that, on reflection, seems to be unfair you have protection under the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977 and the Unfair Terms in Consumer contract Regulations 1994 - even if the 'cooling off period' has expired.

What do I do? For those who have seen my other thread about Tesco’s I’m getting majorly peed off with retailers at the moment!

  • Thats really annoying that you they have to see the fault. Ive never heard of that before.

If i were you id take it into game anyway ank kick up a stink and they should replace it.

If i were you id get a memory card and store all your saves on it rather that the notoriously tempramental hdd and just use the hdd for demos/music etc

  • Thanks for that. Will get a memory card when the console is eventually replaced then!

  • No probs :D

And definately take it to a GAME store. The cs person was just going by the book wheras the local store manager will use his own discretion and will probably swap it too keep you sweet!

  • I need to get confirmation that they'll trade it first as I really don't want to pack it all up inc wires and stuff, then go in and them not take it!

Think I can just take the console with no wires and they'd swap?

  • Possibly i have done that with other electronics but tbh im not sure (dont want to mislead you)

Have you tried ringing the store rather than the national number?

  • Rung the manager

What an amazing guy! Very nice, very friendly.. told me he'd swap the hard drive no problem for me so just bring in the hard drive on its own :D Going to do that in a bit!

May as well by a memory unit at the same time! grrr @ expenditure lol
