RBS Branch Sale to Santana Question, HELP!

Got a bad debit with RBS (loan) posted a while ago and was advised to get a current account with a different bank so they can't just 'offset' my wages etc to pay the loan off if we fall out on our arrangements.

Set up an account with Santana where my wages go as of now and just bloody learnt they bought RBS branches in England.

Will they be able to offset this new account against my old RBS loan?

Thanks

L

Probably when they take over them, not sure when, end of this year?

Google which banks are linked and pick from that.

I use Barclays who are not linked with RBS or Satan.

    I would say NO.

They are just buying branches, they are not purchasing assigned debt. If the banks could buy debt and use the right of set off, I think they would all have been at it for about 10 years now.

Plus it is the wrong way aroung for this to work - you might have a problem if RBS bought Santander[?] branches, but even this you would probably win - and in any case if your branch is sold, I believe you can opt out of the change of bank.

I have an RBS account that I am slowly paying the overdraft off and got a letter a while ago stating that my account will be transferred to Satan with the sale.

OH has an RBS loan and that too is heading to Satan...

I was also told my account would be sold with my credit card, op request a transfer to scottish branch form. you must say the words that you want it, they can not say it to you.
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • OK thanks I'll ask my branch for a Scottish transfer, presumed you would have to move your account to them but if its by choice only.......

  • OK thanks for that, have checked the Q&E on the RBS site as well and doesn't say I can transfer to a Scottish branch, can I?

I've had no letters personally about my account transferring as of yet, though my branch is included as checked.

Yes you can transfer to a scottish branch. Under the terms of the sale RBS are not allowed to tell you that you can transfer, you have to go and tell them you want to!

RBS had to sell all their RBS branded English branches and all the Natwest branded Scottish branches.

Pathetic they aren't allowed to tell you, I'm usually switched on with things like this but didn't even know this was happening till my friend told me!

    I'll ring my branch tomorrow.

Would rather negate the whole point of the exercise - to comply with an EU directive to divest RBS of branches/customers so as to rebalance the competitive banking landscape, after we all rescued RBS from Armageddon with our taxes.

Stand by customers of 632 Lloyds/C&G branches for the next round of this saga!! ;)
