Has anyone got a tell a friend code so we can both get 3 months of using educationcity?
Also, how much homework does your 6 year old, year 1 get?
Mine has a reading book to read and answer a question on on a Tuesday for Thursday and then another one on the Thursday for the following Tuesday. They have maths homework on a Thursday for the following Thursday and spellings on a Friday for the following Friday. Do you think this is too much / just right / not enough?

No code either!
Ours was (now in year 2 and gets similar but obviously harder) on effectively the same homework. The difference with us is that each of the kids has one of those display book things with the clear pockets in - each half term they are filled with all the spellings sheets and all the maths sheets for the half term so that they have them at home ready (e.g. if ill). Each weeks sheet is dated so they know what to be doing when. They are marked on their maths and tested on spellings on a Friday. Reading books come home more sporadically - effectively when you've read it with them and written in their record book, it gets swapped.
In addition to the above ours also get speed maths - depending on their level they get a set of sums/multiples to do - these are test on the basis of trying to get to be able to do say all 30 in 5 minutes. When they can do them all in 5 minutes a couple of times they get moved on to the next set. We get copies of these so we can practice at home but its not marked so often it is the last priority! The idea behind this is to improve their mental arithmetic to the point where the basic building blocks (like how numbers from 1-10 add together and times tables) become rapid instinctive answers to enable them to use that in more complicated maths.Adventure before Dementia!0 -
I teach year 1.
Education City is good, but most of the stuff already on the web in one form or another.
Try bbc bitesize, ictgames.com and

As for homework, we give 5 spellings a week which we test, expect children to be heard read at home 5 - 10 mins every day, and a piece of numeracy or literacy every week - some pieces are longer than others. They also have a mental maths target to practice at home which they'll get tested on once a week.
Children also get the option of participating in a maths challenge.
The amount your child gets sounds about right to me.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

my year 2 6 year old gets homework which matches in with their current topic, they usually have 2 weeks in which to complete it.
They have reading books that they read as often as possible, which are checked once a week.
No maths, no spellings.
My older child who is in year 3 does however get weekly homework, reading is recommended 3 times a week, maths & spellings which are given weekly, although the maths is a little vague ie this week we are working on division.Bow Ties ARE cool "Just because you are offended, doesnt mean you are right" Ricky Gervais
