    What am I doing wrong??

You have more than one credit card already and are making applications for more and the corresponding searches will show on your credit report. So possibly they think you already have enough credit but are trying to add more. That makes you a bad credit risk because if you get more credit you might not be able to keep up the payments and might default. This is only one possibility of many including simple profiteering.

    Alfred,
As far as I'm aware, Aqua is part of the Vanquis group. So, it stands to reason that they will also have a high APR, and will rise in tune with Vanquis.

It's Aquis which is part of the Vanquis group.

I was trying to get a BT card so I could transfer all my other card balances onto it, then close all my cards down leaving only that one BT card.

I have successfully done that now, but am in a dilemma whether to close my longest running card which is monument (9 years) or keep it open as I heard from other people that the longest card should be kept active as it will affect your score negatively if it is shut. The limit is quite low (£700) which may also be a problem if I keep it open.

Anybody know what I should do?
