Very slow mortgage offer, holding up chain- HELP!

My husband and I are first time buyers, he works but I am a full time student.

We are in the process of buying our first house, and have had everything apart from the offer in place since late Jan/early Feb. We are STILL waiting for the offer from Northern Rock though they have told us we have been accepted and even taken a fee from my account, everything was in place but they suddenly decided at the the last minute that they wanted a certificate of decontamination (the house is on a site that was once heavily polluted with asbestos). We got this to them by the 1st March and have heard nothing. The broker keep saying that they are delayed by weeks when it comes to processing documents and keeps telling us the date to expect the offer only for this to be extended repeatedly.

The venders are getting very frustrated with the whole thing and we are holding up the chain, it sounded from the agent like they might pull. I´m feeling pretty fed up, we expcted to have moved by now.

Any advice please??

    I've been Money Tipped!
I would be ringing Northern Rock myself to find out how long the delay was going to be

I had a similar problem with Northern Rock in that it took ages to get to offer.

Our broker called them and told them we were exchanging in 2 days time and got the offer through the next day.

Northern Rock are painfully slow at the moment, and have been for a long time. They shouldnt really be considered for a purchase unless time is not a factor
