TV problem- green haze around picture

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help.

We have a 4 year old Sony TV, not a new flatscreen, but it has suddenly developed a problem with the picture.

There is a funny greenish/pinkish haze that frames the picture. We have checked everything and cannot come up with an answer.

Does anyone know if this can be repaired or is it a case of buying a new TV.

Thanks

Sounds like it may need degaussing. Have you tried switching the tv completely off and then back on again, maybe a couple of times. Many TVs have an automatic degausser built in that activates on switch on. Otherwise could be the CRT is failing.

As albert says, that may cause the problem. Just to clarify what I suggested it would have to be a complete power off not just put to standby.

I've turned it off at mains and back on again and is still bad. Do i need to leave it off for a while??

No magnets near TV, just my 2 year old daughter, but she promises she hasn't touched it!!!

There are magnets on the cabinet that came with the TV, but they have always been there.

Have turned off at mains several times now.

Not looking good, still the same.

If it is the CRT, can this be repaired?? Is it expensive
