Credit card overdue charges.

This morning I received a Notice of Sums In Arrears letter from my credit card saying as my payment that was made in December was late, (by 1 day) I now owe a total of £37, over due fees.

The original bill of £17.50 was due to be paid on 5th December, I went on line and paid this using my Debit Card on the 4th Dec, and had not heard anything from them since so presumed it had been paid. They have said they they sent me 2 emails telling me that I owed the late fees, I have not receiveed these emails, heard nothing until the letter arrived today.

The payment I made on 4th Dec did not reach them until 6th Dec, I have been on the phone to them as I feel as far as I was concerned the bill was paid on the 4th Dec, they tell me that Debit Card payments can take up to 3 days to clear?

I have paid the £37 over the phone to them today and asked that it be looked at as I feel the charges are very wrong as I had paid the original bill on 4th Dec.

Do I have any case to fight here and to try and get my £37 back???

Thanks.

They are correct that your payment on the 4th may well not have been in time - there is usually something on your statement to say allow up to 5days or similar.

But if its a first time 'offence' then it is often possible to get credit card companies to reduce or remove the charges as a goodwill gesture.

I guess the likely issue here is the amount of time that has passed. Did you not receive a statement in Jan or Feb which showed that you had been charged and had a balance?

I'd be more worried about three months damage to my credit file.

Ask them for proof that they sent the emails. Check your email settings including spam filters.

Do you normally receive statements online or through the post? Why haven't you checked them sooner?

As for the £37 (£36 plus interest?) - ask nicely and they might refund.

I am down as receiving statements by email, they have told me that they sent out statements to me in Jan, Feb and March, I have emails in my inbox dating back to last August! I have checked through and have never received their emails, I told them this but they insist they were sent?

I have always had 100% credit ratings, what can this do to it and what would be the effect on me, and how can I find out what my rating is??

I have asked them for a refund and they have sent my complaint to the next level up, who will decide if they will refund or not!

    I am wondering why:
    - the cc company is sending e-mails to the cardholder informing that they owe 'late charges'
    - these 'late charges' have not appeared on a statement
    - the customer has only paid today, 3 months later. Did the OP not make a minimum payment in Jan, Feb or Mar?

    The op says:
This morning I received a Notice of Sums In Arrears letter from my credit card saying as my payment that was made in December was late, (by 1 day) I now owe a total of £37, over due fees.'

Again ... assuming this letter actually says what the OP says it does ... why did the OP not make any payments or receive statements?
