And adding the 12 years you could get credited for having a child to the 18 years you already have, that is your 30 years sorted.0

What is so hard to understand?
sorry for being thick, but the job centre told me that i would have to come in every 2 weeks to sign to get contributions after my JSA had finished. I just wanted to understand things abit clearly. I have been on various websites and i havent found it saying that i get NI from CB so sorry if i didnt understand things0 -

Like I said, call for a pension forcast, or apply for one online.
They know you have a baby, due to the CB. If you are unsure, because the JC staff are useless, call the NI dept and ask them.0 -

"If you have a child under 12 - and you're either looking after them at home or you work but don’t earn enough to pay National Insurance contributions - Child Benefit can help you qualify for ‘credits’ for being a parent or a carer. These credits count towards your State Pension."
http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/ni/intro/credits.htm
"You'll get National Insurance credits automatically in some situations. If you don't, you'll need to apply for them.
Qualifying automatically for National Insurance credits
You'll get National Insurance credits automatically:
if you're getting certain benefits like Employment and Support Allowance or Carer's Allowance
if you are a man approaching age 65 – see the section ‘National Insurance credits in different situations’
for the tax years when you become 16, 17 and 18, if you meet the conditions – see the section ‘National Insurance credits in different situations’
if you're getting Child Benefit for a child under 12
if you're receiving Income Support and caring for a sick or disabled person0
