Recently my Dad's computer has stopped connecting to the internet with Firefox. It was fine until a couple of weeks ago. In the task bar at the bottom it shows that it's connected to the internet, and we can access the network drive and Skype also works. However, in order to be able to browse the internet with Firefox (and I also tried IE8 today with the smae results), you have to go into Network connections, disable the connection, and then re-enable it. Once this it done it works fine until the computer is switched off. As far as I can tell all the software is up to date. He is running Windows Vista and connects to the internet via an Edimax repeater and an ethernet cable. The problem is not with the repeater as my laptop connects to it fine.
Can anyone offer any advice as to how we sort this?

Try repairing the connection. Also make sure you have the latest drivers for the LAN port. Perform a CClean.0

I've tried repairing the connection in windows but it says there's no problems to repair.
Sorry but where do I check for LAN drivers. I'm using the port on the motherboard. I'm thinking it's nothing to do with LAN anyway as I can access the network and Skype works fine. It's just web browsing.
Sorry but what's a CClean?0 -
Check 'Device Manager' and see if there are any yellow question marks or issues. Run Windows Update to check for hardware updates.
CCleaner is will clean out all the things you no longer need on your computer to avoid the dreaded slowdown of your computer. Handy to do now and again.0 -
Thanks, I've checked and there are no yellow ticks and windows is up to date. What I have found is that disabling the Firewall allows web access once the computer's re-booted. Obviously I don't want to leave firewall off, but could this be waht's causing it. Dad's also running AVG anti-virus software.0

Either run one or the other - not both. I'd leave AVG on and disable Windows firewall.0
