I recently applied for this account through Quidco which gives you £30 cashback. I didn't think I would be accepted as my credit isn't great but I am in the process of sorting it out. I was quite surpried that it has indeed been approved and everyone I have spoken to has been very helpful and friendly.
I brief bit of history about me; I messed my credit up quite badly when I was at uni, and that had a knock on effect for a couple of years after. I now have a well paid job and a mortgage (although we had to get a "bad credit" one) but I still get refused for bank accounts. I have a Halifax easy cash which I don't really use beacuse of the electron card, and a Barclays basic bank account which is my main account. I have used this perfectly for 4 years but they will never upgrade me (I realise from reading this thread that you can't upgrade to a current account from this account, however no one in branch has ever told me that.)
It doesnt appear that I will be able to get a current account until my last CCJ drops off so I haev had to go offshore, where, apparently they judge on salary and circumstances rather that past mistakes.
I realise that there will be a £20 fee pm but I am willing to pay this as I travel frequently and will have full debit cards in $,£ and €, plus free travel insurance and a cheque book.
I realise that this won't be reported to the CRA but I have my other accounts, plus my Vanquis and catalogues (as recommended on this forum) that do.
I just wanted to share that there are some accounts that will look at circumstance rather than past mistakes, even if they aren't based in this Country :rotfl:
