  • Hi

The point is, I have not been their customer for those four years. The Data Protection Act guidance ("Principle #5") is that: "Personal data processed for any purpose or purposes shall not be kept for longer than is necessary for that purpose or those purposes".

I do not consider that security information relating to a long-closed account is "necessary for [that/any] purpose". That they know that I was their previous customer, is fine - I can see why, for commercial reasons, they would want to control multiple claims on their joining and leaving bonuses. But my personal security details have nothing to do with that, so: a) why did they keep them live; and b) why use their existence against me when I came back to open a new account?

Like I said (and I think you agreed) paranoid lunacy...
  • I purposely milked FD for the £125 joining and £100 leaving gifts.

The reason for leaving I gave was that I found their internet banking system to not be user friendly.

I got the £100 leaving present.

well their banking system has records of accounts going back to 1989 when they first opened for all accounts including closed. Is that not excessive data too?
