:money: The press have been discussing the fact that the New Windows Vista costs a lot more over here than in the states. Exact Same Software, just a higher price. Whether you realise it or not stumping up the extra dosh may come sooner than you think. Read on....
I know I will end up buying Vista some day soon because this fact that has been hammered home to me today:eek:. A replacement Webcam I have no longer supports a number of features I've been using. It's the same model as my last camera just not 5 months old? I asked the manufacturers about this and the reason given is that the feature is not supported in Vista, therefore so it's no longer supported on XP?!
Note: It's only been three and a bit weeks since Vista was officially released!!
The problem here is that the support has been dropped in the installed software. Since most software these days is automatically updated over the internet it's a matter of days before I switch my PC on and find something else isn't working. At what stage do I give up?
The answer may turn out to be sooner than I thought and sooner than I want.
But do I have to pay dramatically higher prices than in the US. Hopefully not as one chap wants to change this:T . He may have asked the wrong person/place for help, but that's no matter. It's the thought that counts so we all need to show the thought was a good'n. i.e lets all agree.

Now : Before you all roll your eyes:rolleyes: throw your arms in the air
and say how is this going to help??? The press has been watching. They have made a fuss already which is why I know about the petition. The press will probably relish the opportunity of turning this into a crusade:p . Crusades, especially controversial ones, sell copy and increase readership. But this will only happen if enough people agree and therefore sign up. I say lets make the life of the tech press easier buy giving them a worthwhile story they can sink their teeth into. They can return the favour by reducing the amount we have to spend in the end.
As I've stated in an email I sent out to a few friends. The higher UK prices isn't exclusive to Microsoft, but making one company publicly reverse a UK higher pricing policy may sway others into thinking twice. So tell everyone you know about the petition.:A
In this case Microsoft is just the example it's the artificial inflation:mad: , higher interest rates:mad: and bad value:mad: we are fighting against. This petition could, with your help, send a message and set a precedent saving everyone money in the end.:j
cheers

It's not my petition. I'm just 100% behind it.0

It's your spam, cluttering up this forum.
If you think the petition will have any effect, you are incredibly naive.
Wanna buy Vista cheap, emigrate.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Did you read the thread on this topic a few days ago?
It is likely to have as much success as the (rejected) petition to Bring Back Blue Smarties...

Like I said, it may well be the wrong place for the petition, but it's very a prominent place to be seen and that's the point I was trying to make.
But if everyone feels this is spam so be it. However, I though the whole ethos of the site was about ways to save money. How wrong was I! Anyway, it will stop being spam if people stop saying it’s spam as it will then be allowed to disappear into the 1,000,00 page of the listings.
BTW the link to the £125 Windows Vista Ultimate edition given in the other thread is a questionable purchase as it's an OEM copy. Should it ever be questioned by MS the license terms will probably mean it's illegally installed.
That being the case it's not really an argument that should be used to contra the petition.0 -

It is - provided you insert the word practical before 'ways'!
A petition to ask the British Government to change the ways of an American corporation can hardly even be classed as highly as 'hot air'. It's what I call a CWOTTA - a "Complete Waste Of Time"-Time Again.

Not sure that PM can really get involved in American Corporate issues but it's worth a try!0 -

Hopefully, this may clear up a missconception. I really don't expect our illustrious leader to do anything. Whatsoever. In fact I would sleep easier on any given day if I knew he had done nothing.
The only reason I think this could make a difference is the fact that I know about this through the press. Therefore it's something they will report on if it's a success. The catch 22 is just that people have to sign which means they have to almost ignore the fact that they are signing a pointless no 10 petition.
I hope the suggestion makes more sense when put like this.
