MSE News: Fuel rise 'will force job changes'
Comments
-
I rarely use car for pleasure and I dont drive some distance for a holiday, fuel is one of the deciding factors for me, and haven't had a break in 3 years
I remember not long ago when it crept up to £1 a litre for a while we didnt expect it to jump up to what it is now.
I gave up my takeaway job 2 1/2 years ago because I had to pay for fuel and any money I was making 1/3rd of it was just for fuel, it wasnt worth doing the job anymore because money wasnt that good0 -

For someone on a significantly lower wage, I can easily seeing fuel costs being the straw that breaks the camel's back - and they'll decide that staying at home on benefits is an easier way of being poor.
People on jobseekers allowance are expected to apply for a minimum wage job up to 90mins travel time away (each way)
Thats a hell of a lot fuel to use on a minimum wage..Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
What nonsense. They asked a leading question and small numbers of people gave the answer they begged.
High fuel prices are proven to reduce congestion, they really are not a bad thing.0 -

Not to disbelieve or owt, but where was this proven? Statistics?“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

High fuel prices stop me from driving to see my family as much as I'd like. They mean that the food I buy costs more. They mean that I have to do my hobbies less often. Is "less congestion" really the best you can come up with by way of a positive?0 -
I'd happily pay twice as much for petrol.. if public transport was free..Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0

...and if it didnt involve ridiculous routes if you're not going into central London. As I've been moaning in the budget news thread- I travel a 75mile round commute (Bexley to Chelmsford), and motoring is my biggest cost. I only passed my test and got a car 2 months after starting my current job, so I started travelling on public transport. It involved getting a bus, DLR, the underground, a train and then another bus...taking 2 hours each way. So commuting via road, with a trip of 45mins each way, is much better...but is expensive due to fuel and the Dartford crossing toll.I dont want to move to Essex, as my family and boyfriend live south of it, and I have volunteering commitments so would need to travel south constantly anyway.
Having said that, I really dont want to change jobs. I'm unable to get a job closer, as I have my dream job as a research scientist, and there arent many places I can do that.
So basically, I cant see my need to commute this way changing, so I am relying on the government taking action so that my £200+ fuel bill and £40 toll bill each month is lessened!0 -

My 20 mile journey to work takes me half an hour by car, without breaking any speed limits, the equivalent journey on Public transport would take 2hrs at least including waiting times for buses and trains and would cost me £15 a day, it's cheaper for me to drive and only a quarter of the travelling time, public transport has a long way to go before it becomes a realistic option for many people to get to work.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -
What the LPG brigade dont tell you is that if the vehicle is involved in a motorway collision, the motorways is closed in both directions until the tank has been visually inspected at 4x30 min intervals and deemed as stable.
