Revenge On Spammers

I've heard that there is a way of reporting spammers to the IP host, to get their site/email addy wiped off the world.

Please, does anybody know how to do this?

Because of my charity activities, my email address is listed in local/national and international directories for legitimate reasons... but I get 100 to 150 spams almost everyday. My IP screens everything, so very few get through to the Inbox but I still need to check the spam box just in case a legitimate message gets diverted there [and it does happen!]. [If I change Email address, the problem will inevitably return...].

If there was a simple way to report spammers to their IPs maybe by recruiting eveybody who uses Martin's MSE we can make a difference and rid the internet of these total idiots.

Rant over, thanks for reading this and good luck with your money [and time] saving efforts.

i think the only easy way, though prob expensive is to sign up to a company like messagelabs. I doubt the whole report to IP thing would have any effect, as they are prob being sent from Russia or somewhere that there isnt a law on spam
if i had known then what i know now

Or even more probably the email will be sent from zombie machines, so although good to get the pcs' owners to realise their computers are infected it still won't really deal with the problem of the actual spammers. The only real solution to spamming is to either change the email system to charge per email for from addresses not on white lists (impractical) or for the idiots who keep buying the rubbish and keeping the spamming business lucrative to stop (unfortunately being stupid isn't currently illegal).

  • I have got AVG zonealarm and often scan spybot . Is there any other way to find out if your own machine is sending stuff?

Sounds like you are quite well protected, I think most security conscious people who pay attention would notice something odd with their machine and most zombie pcs are created by people not installing any AV software and/or not keeping windows updated.

In ZoneAlarm - firewall - have a look at which programmes are able to act as servers on the internet. via Program Control >> Program tab >> green tick in the "Server" "Internet" column.

There isn't any need for there to be any, unless you are hosting something on your pc, such as web pages.
