                    Hello all
I would be greatfull for advice anyone can offer regarding life assurance and travel insurance for my husband. He is 3 years in remission for stage 4 colon cancer and 48 yrs old. We are debt/mortgage free but due to me changing my job I have had to review our finances regarding insurances as I think we are now undercovered (my old job offered a good life assurance).
We have an existing endowment which we took out a long time ago to cover our old mortgage and I have kept the endowment going which offers £35k life assurance. It finishes in 2013. I have found it hard going to get quotes for life assurance for either one of us and have found it impossible to get a yes or no answer from well known insurance companies regarding level of cover without them actually quoting us (for something that might not be suitable !!!!). I realise that these people are reading off a script but they dont seem to grasp that I want some answers before going ahead with a quote.
Since husband was diagnosed, we have gone abroad for holidays (short haul) using the insurance offered by Lloyds tsb as a current account holder. We had to sign an indemnity which meant that we are not covered if husband is taken ill as a result of his cancer. I would like to know if there are any companies out there that are able to offer realistic travel insurance to husband.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I had a similar problem finding travel insurance for my Mum. There is good information on the cancerhelp website: http://www.cancerhelp.org.uk/help/default.asp?page=4343
I tried the specialist insurers following their advice of initially asking for an "in principal" decision as being rejected for insurance needs to be declared to other insurance companies you subsequently speak to.
In our case we found only 2 insurance companies who quoted about £16,000 for 1 weeks cover to Turkey. My Mum took the risk without insurance as these quotes were ridiculous.
Good luck with finding cover. It is a distressing process since they ask very searching questions which you may find upsetting to answer. I would suggest you talk to the insurance companies on your husbands behalf "in principle" and see if there is a chance of getting insurance, and what ball park figure they would expect to charge. If this answer is positive they will need to speak to him to give a quote.
The same website has information on life insurance, but I do not have any experience of arranging this: http://www.cancerhelp.org.uk/help/default.asp?page=43400
