Finding employment

Hi

is using the internet the best way to find work? when i send my cv/cover letter via e-mail for jobs on direct gov or any other jobsite , most of the time i never get a respone; only if these sites have a direct link to a company's website. are these jobs fakes and a easy way for wood be scamers to obtain personal info during this tough economic-time.

do you know any websites that you''ve been suceessful on ? thanks

I think it depends on what kind of work you are looking for and what experience you have to offer. I normally work in a field that means that I get 3 - 6 month between jobs and need to find temporary work in between. For me agencies are the way to go because there is a shortage of people with my profession and I can always get agency work within days of wanting work.

Most of the companies on directgov have email address's that go direct to the person dealing with the recruitment or it's an agency just wanting emailed cv's. I normally use cv library, total jobs, reed.co.uk, but those sites just recently leave alot to be desired with nothing being added for a long time.

The only scam jobs i have had are when i put my cv on total jobs and cv library where the so called employer has contacted me.

Emailing never works because it's too easy to do that so everyone spams the employer's inbox. Always hand in your CV in person.

I'm not saying that shouldn't be done but really it's a different world now for a lot of roles - email is a necessary evil/useful tool (delete as appropriate).

I found reed and indeed good websites to use, and once you have entered your information you do not have to do it again. Use to get more responses from those jobs. Pointers to remember, if the job advert doesn't describe what job it is and claims to pay well it's probably a scam, and never pay for any training or anything else.
    Hopeful optimistic.

Employer will receive hundreds of emails. S/he won't spend that much time going through each and every one of them. Your CV is likely to be deleted along with your email if you're not lucky... before it even gets read.

If you hand it in in person, employer will remember your face and chances of giving you the job is much higher, assuming you're right for the job.

It's easy to randomly email a lot of employers for jobs, but a lot more time consuming to physically travel to the employer's address to hand in your CV. Shows you really want the job, and this sets you aside from people sending emails in bulk.

You can do this if the employer will actually accept CV's in person as some job ads ive seen only want applications via email and email only so your theory is blown out of the water.

Why would anybody just randomly email a lot of employers? There's more thought put into emails by most people then you give credit for.
