all of a sudden, out of the blue yesturday i had loads of emails via my business website, asking if i would put a link on my website to theirs and vice -versa
what type of scam/ money making scheme is this?
if it was genuine, surely it would be just the odd email now and again, but to have loads all on one day, out of the blue?
One of them even wanted to help me 're-write' my website to encorporate their company and their links:rotfl:
or is there some sort of business website, and someone have said to get traffic to your website, contact other businesses to share links, but before they do, they will have a nose on your website, so increasing your traffic?

"back links" between similar web site used to boost your google ranking but think those days have long gone
I would never let anyone add/edit code on my web site :eek:Ex forum ambassador

I've had a flood of those too - I'm ignoring & deleting them, I'm afraid. Apart from my business site, I've been running a non-profit website for over 10 years & you will get influxes of these sporadically; I think most of them are automatically generated & simply pick up on one or two words used on your index page or in your tags to try to "target" their wares.
As far as I'm concerned it's a form of spam & very rude. It's also preying on people who are insecure; I believe new site-owners have to pay for these link-developing "services" who then go on to try to get all the sites they've found to sign up too, so yes, it's a scam.Angie - GC Feb 26 £335.07.07/£400: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 40/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
Yep, same here, getting loads from India, all exactly the same text from different company names.
Replied to one saying "Remove me from your spam list" and they replied with "spam list ?? this is find your Mail ID from your URL and i sent manual to you"
