Pottering is SO theraputic

Not a day goes by now that I watch the weather forcast with interest, just so that I can plan a day pottering about in the garden. Yes, even as early as Feb. If it should be cold or damp, there is always the shed where I can busy myself making tubs/window boxes and such like. I've now removed the fleece from my palms and tender shrubs.
Having clay soil isn't much fun, but there are ways to overcome it. For me, easier than digging countless preparations into the clay soil, is to cover the ground with chip bark, and house my 80 or so shrubs/plants in tubs. They are grouped intheir OWN area's or islands as I tend to call them, ie palms, conifers, etc. Round each island a 2ft trellis keeps my two ducks at bay.
A miniture greenhouse stands idle awaiting a burst of inspiration/activity, but as I don't favour bedding plants, I don't know what I will use it for. maybe I should switch off the computer and go and do some more pottering.

I love pottering too, especially as we are having an unusually mild winter. I am looking forward to it drying up a bit but have been making use of my shed and started planting lots of seeds, a mixture of veg and flowers. I am sure that my garden will look lovely this year!0

I am practising pottering indoors, looking through my books and endlessly sorting out my seeds, a huge amount came from Freecycle and some I got from a seed exchange yesterday. what is the word for pottering in the mud though, bit damp down here in Kent!Carolbee0

Having spend the day in the garden despite occasional showers I think that the proper names should either be "clarting" or "paddling":rotfl:

Oh yes, I love a good potter myself, it's just finding the time. What with the housework
and all A friend is someone who overlooks your broken fence and admires the flowers in your garden.0 -
I'm just coming out of hibernation and ambled up the town yesterday with a view to investing in some tomato seeds. Luckily for me Wilko have still got their bogoff offer on. Didn't do too well last year with the toms so decided to just concentrate on gardeners delight this year, for my free packet I decided on some cress. Haven't grown any since I was a kid, but then I thought, "If I have some cress, I'm going to need some mustard". So now I've got 3 packets and need to choose another in order to complete my bogoff. Gardening shouldn't be this stressful. In the end, I settled on another packet of cress. I came home and pithered about in my greenhouse looking for some suitable containers to plant my seeds in. I always keep the plastic containers that we have supermarket cress in for this purpose but they were nowhere to be seen so I've had to resort to an empty utterly butterly container.
She who thinks she must be obeyed says that we haven't got space for a shed, only a greenhouse and the old adage says that people with greenhouses shouldn't be seen pottering about. Oh how I wish that I had a shed, I could potter about all weekend then.0
