Paying for my bank account

Hi, I'm a single mum unable to work due to disability, so I'm receiving state benefits.
A few years ago, my bank made an appointment with me to discuss my account.
I went and ended up signing up for a paid bank account. I didn't want, need or ask for it. I've been with my bank since I was a child and my account was always being moved onto a different account (child account, teen account, young adult account) so I thought that moving onto a paid account was the next step in the banking work as I had reached 21. I wasn't given any options or told I can keep my account free and I suffer with Aspergers syndrome and already felt under pressure with being in a foreign situation.
I've been paying for my account for two years now and recently learned that I don't have to pay for my bank account and that with me being on benefits, I shouldn't be doing it.

I've never used the benefits or advantages of having the paid account. Would be able to claim this money back?

I'm sorry for you but it is all your fault and No you can't claim money back from your bank for the provided services.

Write to the bank and tell them:

    1) You didn't feel that alternatives were given- you were under the impression that you had to pay the fee.

    2) You have never used any of the benefits.

    3) You want to switch to a fee free account immediately.

    4) You want a refund of fees paid.

    See what happens.

I would go into the Bank, speak to them and tell them that you don't want this paid account anymore. Get them to switch you to a free one.

Take someone with you, so you don't feel intimidated by them.

Mis-selling has been recognised in this area, and you can ask for all the money back

"It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. But it's no longer the individual banks that are in the wrong, it's the banking industry as a whole." - Steven Cooper, head of personal and business banking at Barclays, talking to Martin Lewis
