Moto Service Station Frankley Found Money

Last week sometime (not being too specific here) I visited the services above, and found more than £80 in notes in a public area. I spoke to a cashier to ask her what procedure was and she was helpful but didn't know, so she phoned a colleague who also didn't know, she was unable to reach anyone from the management team. We talked it through and agreed it was best to leave it in their safe in case someone realised they had lost it and came back. I obviously considered the option of calling the police to report it and taking it with me, but as I am a truck driver and was going to a destination several hundred miles away didn't think this was such a good solution, as it would be a pain for whoever had lost it to get it from me. I made it very clear that if nobody claimed it I would come back to collect it and the cashier agreed this was fair. I said I would call the next day, to see what their procedure was, and I did. Unfortunately the manager didn't know what the procedure was, and said they would get back to me. I eventually managed to get hold of someone on Saturday who told me that they still weren't sure what to do, and had informed head office, who would call me on Monday, but no call came, so waited until Tuesday afternoon and called the services. The manager wasn't in but the person I spoke to was able to tell me that the manager had decided to keep it and donate it to the nominated charity of Moto. Now I have no problem with it going to charity, in fact I lost a friend and colleague 2 weeks ago and would be quite happy to donate it to the charity that the family would like supporting but it just feels wrong that Moto are ignoring my requests for the money back and have instead decided to donate to a charity of their choice.
Am I being unreasonable here? what do others think? I would like to raise this with their head office but can't seem to find any email addresses, only a form to fill (which I have done).

dont moto do good charity causes in their establishments?
im fairly sure they make a big issue of it
you should have paid it into a nick if you felt they wouldnt apportion it to your satisfaction0 -
I thought they had to keep it for 30 days , to see if anyone claimed it, then hand it to the person who found it.
Thats what they used to do in Asda when I was a young whippersnapper ! ( old codger now, lol)
Think it is a bit naughty myself, can they prove they gave it to charity?0 -
I think what annoys me is that I never would have left it with them if I had believed they would just keep it to do what they saw fit with. I specifically spoke to their available representative about reclaiming it and was lead to believe it would be returned if unclaimed. Its all very well them shouting about how great they are with charity donations, but if they have taken the money under false pretences its a bit rich. Bit of a warning to anyone thinking of handing things in I guess, just phone and get a police report and keep hold of it.0

When I used to work at Moto Frankley (back in 2008/9) lost property was either kept in the safe, or sent to the cash office in a sealed cash bag with a date on it.
If you call back and ask if anyone found your wallet on X day, they should have it.
If you call, ask to speak to Lynn Parslow, she's the site manager, and is usually quite useful. The duty manager should also be able to advise you.0 -
You could get a friend to phone up and enquire if anyone has handed in the money they lost there...0

Sometimes when an organisation donates to a charity, they get an acknowledgement or some kind of thank you - perhaps ask for that!
I just have a feeling you have contributed to the staff Christmas party!
And they say honesty is the best policy! You could get a friend to phone up and enquire if anyone has handed in the money they lost there...
Good idea.0 -

Ha ha, stupid thing is they could probably trace whose money it was if they could be bothered, as service areas are covered from top to toe with cameras, as above though I think that the drinks bill at the works do, is where its headed.
Just wondered if anyone is able to find an email for their management team, as I would welcome their take on it.0 -
Just in case any of you were using the M5 last Wednesday night and you used the southbound fuel station before about 20.00 . It may be as well to check you didn't lose £100 in used 20's when in the gents .0
