Car Insurance Backdate Charges - where do I stand?

Hi

I've been with the same car insurer for 3 years now and from the start have declared x3 accidents and x1 speeding conviction. But for some reason, the last time the renewal came through they had omitted this information but I hadn't realised.
They are now saying I owe them £150 for the previous years insurance because I hadn't informed them about one of the accidents and the speeding fine! Where do I stand on this? Do I have to pay? I feel like they're treating me most unfairly as I have never tried to hide any information from them and had declared everything to them. Any advice will be appreciated :)

  • more than likely they will make you pay or they will cancel your policy. i've never seen or heard of an insurance company giving anyone slack. i could be wrong.

Can you prove they knew about the accidents and speeding fine?

    Old renewals with them listed?

My renewal notice asks me to check all details are correct and if they are not to contact them? What did yours say?

not saying its right as you were technically driving without insurance BUT ive had similar recently where they threatened baliffs etc ovr a 400 quid policy that they tried to auto renew insurance on a sorned car - WITHOUT sending me/ or at least me recieving documents informing me of the cost - until i recieved the demand for 400 quid payable by the date i recieved the letter some 3 months later - i hit the roof on the phone.

i used a Credit card for 1 off payment the first year and later had it canceled due to fraud so the renewal didnt go through luckily

the counterargument i used for them backcharging was.

If i was to have been driving this SORNED car on the road and was involved in an accident during this period of "backpayment" you are demanding would i have been covered ...... no youd have run a mile because i hadnt paid.

2 days later i had a letter saying that they were sorry about the mistake and that i would be removed from their database.
