Thanks DreamerV, have PM'd you :)

Payday is tomorrow - my account currently stands at -£2,237 which is great and marginally less than my £2.4k limit. Of course, I just had my £25 from Ebay sales and £22 from NCT sales just go into my account this morning which is the reason. But either way, I'm OK with that.

I havn't been very proactive at chasing BT I'm afraid, a very stressful weekend has just passed. No real reason aside from husband being a pain. He's hoping he finds out if his job is going to be stable again this week - last night he told me the 'first thing he was going to do is email the tailor' (he gets his suits made in Singapore as he's a funny size). I did raise my eyebrows I admit, even more so this morning when my fave pair of work trousers than are about 6 yrs old gave up the ghost when I managed to tear a hole in the bottom of one of the legs. But there you go :o

Catronia, Can I just ask if you look to reduce the overdraft in chunks speak to the bank and make sure they won't credit check for reducing.

Some banks do this. I'm more concerned about leaving foot prints on your credit file.

Check with the bank, its just an after thought I had today

This bit is very positive :) 2237 is great, and I'm sure you'll soon be below 2200! (Obviously you will because of payday, but you know what I mean - more permanently not having to go over 2200!)

This bit not so great for you. I hope his job is stable. Phoning BT is a bit of a pain (I know, I worked on their phone lines as a billing adviser!). At least it's freephone though. Make sure you have stuff to do while you're on hold, as call time when I worked there was often over an hour :/

Not sure I understand what the problem is - if you pay a flat rate fee for the O/D no matter the balance then just gradually reduce the balance yourself to generate a buffer- you don't need the bank to reduce the amount you can borrow to do this?

Perhaps not supportive, but I'd argue that it's helpful longer-term to fix the ultimate issue that's the elephant in the room here. I don't see how focusing on a tiny by-product of the OP's situation (for which she has received very practical, useful advice from a number of posters already, and which I can't expand on much further) helps her from my end.

Regardless of that feeling, I apologise if I've caused the OP any offence and will refrain from commenting further. Sometimes I can't help but comment when I see such an unfair setup being played out - my bad.

Maybe ... but you could try to word it in a more supportive and encouraging manner rather than attacking the OPs husband.....

I see my post, to which you refer, was removed by the mod team. However, I genuinely don't think I have the level of diplomacy skills needed to word my original sentiments in an acceptably encouraging manner, short of leaving it at "I don't think the OP is being treated very well." Hopefully that should make my point clear, whilst still remaining the right side of the line for the mods.

I personally don't think jfh7gwa meant to offend, but rather fully appraise the situation and highlight what they think is the main problem in getting to the root of the money problems. I think it is hard to gauge the sentiment behind such statements on here. In any case though I'm sure Catriona will deal with the emotional issues from here on in, unless she specifically asks for advice on them, and we can continue to support on monetary issues (as much as we can disentangle them) :)

That's ok, I wasn't offended, and did view the post before it was removed, just didn't have a chance to respond until now. :) My response is that I think you're right, there are a lot of emotional issues going on here and it is a big elephant in the room.

I am in tough place emotionally as well as financially, but aside from the obvious need to get my finances in order, I do feel I would be a lot more confident in my stand if I knew I had the stable financial background to tackle the 'elephant'. I also think he would take me more seriously if he knew I had the financial ability to go it alone without him. I hope that makes sense. :o

As far as finances go, I balanced my monthly spreadsheet today (payday yay!) and I'm almost £300 better off than I was last month. A big part of that is no council tax bill, a £75 cost-of-living backdated pay from work, and the extra money I made selling things which accounts for about £200 altogether, but I do feel good that I made some progress. April is a tough month financially for me (gas/elec bill, extra council tax payment, water bill) but for today I can at least be happy. I intend to crack onto BT on friday, I have the day off (a 'life laundry' day) so I'll have time to spend an hour or whatever on the line to them! :)

Thanks, as always, for all your responses. They are more appreciated than you know :)
