virgin/ntl takeover price increases .

I just got my bill from ntl. (now virgin media) this is now £5 charge if you do not pay by DD. Not everybody can guarantee that the money will be in their bank, ie dwp co**ed- up peoples benefits regularly, on a tight budget, etc, so for many, in order to avoid charges from bank for overdrawn, it simply aint an option.

I further notice that the price increase is cleverly incorporated into the tv rental sum on ones bill.......

I have decided I will cancel the tv, use a freeview box to cancel out the extra charge. and save myself paying the extra.

Reading some posts here I don't think bT are any better.....either.

I had the same view with regards to the non dd fee of £5. What I did to get around it was insure that I left the £45 monthly charge in my bank ac to cover the dd. Now if you pay by phone or at a pay point then you have the cash, why not just pop it in or leave it in the bank and save £60 a year

  • Can this company actually get any worse? I have had no end of problems with NTL and the takeover seems to be making things even worse.

I am currently signed up to the three for £30 package that NTL offered but, upon receipt of an incorrect bill, I telephoned and was told that Virgin Media are not honouring this offer......this is not the way to encourage customers to stick with you as a new service.

The £5 DD charge is rediculous. For the last 4 months I have had to ring NTL to get my bill corrected before making my payment because they keep messing up.

    This company are a joke.

And I thought I was being my usual cynical self when, back in November, I doubted what I read:
    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/11/08/ntl_goes_virgin_50mb/

"Virgin Media promises to live up to Virgin's long-established reputation for offering world class customer service."
    Perhaps not!
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Going by Sunnydays previous post you can get the £5 charge removed if you phone up.
  • Iam also with NTL/Virgin and have found the 3 for £30 package to be of poor quality. My NTL box keeps sticking especially on channel 144/145 during 'friends' the screen goes funny until i change chaannel and turn it back.

The guide displayed at the bottom of the screen is sometimes blank and when you go to guide it says searching forever!!! (i just give up)

I have had them re-print a bill from a previous month!!!

and they were over charging me for an extra digi box which added up over 9 months to over a hundred pounds!!!

    i would NOT recommend NTL!!!

I would like to change but it seems like alot of hastle!!

  • I've had nithing but problems since changing to digital and getting broadband with them. For a start they told me i would be paying no more than £48 per month, they lied and ive been paying at the least £58 per month!I then noticed they have been charging me £1.85 per month for anonymous call barring, and anonymous calls are still coming through, and it's not like i have not told them about this in the past.Another problem i had when going over to broadband was that they were still charging me for dial up at £15 a month, this went on for 4 months and took numerous calls to sort it out.
I am contracted with them though until June so i cannot switch at the moment.
  • Yup I just got fleeced the £5 nonDD charge too - because my stupid BANK messed up and returned the payment - charges from both ends

Presently hunting around for either a better deal, or what *looks* like a better deal so I can wave it under their noses and say make it worth my while to stay ;)

But generally     one of those months :D
:TProud to be dealing with my debts :T

"There are a percentage of customers that are unhappy that Sky's channels are no longer on the air, but we are saving at least 95 per cent of them at the moment with retention offers."

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/main.jhtml?xml=/money/2007/03/04/cnvirgin04.xml

I thought they insisted there's be no discounts for the loss of the channels!

If you're not on a retention deal now looks like the time!

Maybe Martin should include this in his Email?
