increase in Electric usage
I have for a long time kept track of my fuel usage which for Electricity has been about 4000 KWH per year,I now find that on checking that my projected use will be nearer 5000KWH
As a way of checking last thing at night I take a reading from the meter and check it again when I get up, and I seem to be using approx 3to 4 KWH thro the night
I have a small freezer in the garage and the house fridge /freezer.
The main tv 37in hd is switched off at source and the combi gas boiler goed off at bedtime and comes back on at 8 am. the sky box is on stand by and i hace one or two small items ilke a phone extension and bed side light plus the computer all on satnd by
Can I use this amount of electric when the above is ether off or on stand by

If something is on standby it is still drawing power.
The utility companies seem to be sending out projected figures at the moment because I had one for my flat recently. I think they look at last year's consumption to work out what it will cost you this year. Remember that we had a bad winter in the early part of 2011 so that would have bumped up the bill somewhat.0 -
3 - 4 Kwh overnight seems quite high for what you say is left on
Maybe an idea to buy a Wattmeter, (£12 ? ). These plug into the socket and the appliance plugs into it - It's screen then shows how any Kwh the appliance is drawing - Old freezers can be power hungry0
