Bl***y EDF Energy....... I received a bill from them today for a property that I had let out. The tenant moved out in Nov 2010 and the property was empty until march 2011. The bill covers that period.
Todays date is 21st March..... they want payment of 50 odd quid by the end of the month. Can they make this demand after 12 months. If I was a chav I'd get away with offering them £2.00/week, if they were lucky. grrrrrrrrr
I think I need to change my supplier from EDF to something similar, DT Energy...... thats DT for !!!!!! Turpin.
The 12m back billing rule may apply if it's more than 12 months. What are the exact dates (when does the billing period begin and end)? If end of March 2011, then it's legit.
But why so angry? You've had a year's interest-free energy in the meantime. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Agree, and the poster is a landlord who should know they are legally responsible for all consumption between tenants and letting their supplier know this...so as to not lumber the supplier trying to find who has used what. Its entirely possible if the old tenant left on an underestimated closing reading that the next tenant could be billed this. Not judging OP, but this does happen with properties.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
So, the OP has deleted his post. I take it that there is no new EDF tariffs coming out in the next week or so then?0

Thanks Macman & Terrlw1
EDF have just agreed, after a very tedious conversation, to quosh this bill under the 12 month backbilling code.
When the previous tenant left in Nov 2010 edf came out and took meter readings. During that period (over winter) between Nov & Mar there was consumption and I gave EDF the updated meter readings the day before the new tenant moved in in March 2011. I also told EDF that I was a landlord for that property and gave them my address. When I received the first bill on Wednesday and called EDF for an explanation as to why I was receiving a bill from 18nov10 to 13 Mar 11, she said that it was in error and that it had only been picked up now by their non payment team. I wasn't against the idea of paying, but I was annoyed that it had taken so long because of an error on their part. Only after posting on here did I learn about the back billing code, and this case met all of the criteria for non payment as, a) they had the meter readings, b) payment had not been wilfully avoided, and c)they had my address for billing.
So........thanks Macman for the heads up. The main problem now is that the tenant has not had an energy bill for the last 12 months..... oh oh :-(0 -
