  • Hi Jetcat, My family and I have travelled to Florida many times, we have done all parks, two centre and also enjoyed 1 week parks, 1 week gulf coast and then 1 week done in Miami.
You can make the Florida experience so much better if you have a split away from the parks great as they are but relaxing on the coast after the grind of theme parks is really cool and keeps all the family happy.
I personally would not include New York after the parks as it is another really busy place and you will want to chill after the park experience.
take a look at Anna Maria Island just a few hours drive from the parks on the coast you will NOT regret it!

Anna Maria Island sounds lovely ...

Can also recommend Clearwater Beach, beautiful beaches and some excellent shopping (you can't sunbathe all the time!) x
    Gone ... or have I?

If you do do New york there is a theme park an hour south of there called 'Six flags Great Adventure' it has one of the biggest collections of coaters anywhere and also has the worlds highest and fastest.

    Check this out :)

thanks guys. am not going to be driving, so staying on site for disney. is not driving an option at places like Clearwater? your advice is very much appreciated thanks, as apart from France, have never been abroad, and am nervous about going on own with daughter!
  • Hi,

In the past we have flown from Sanford or Orlando to Tampa, Fort lauderdale and Miami airports. This would be easily done for you through a UK travel agent, and then get a taxi or shuttle bus depending on where you are staying.

Ive been to Florida 9 times in the past 12 years, and I've never once felt unsafe, even during Hurricanes Charley and Francis.

Everyone is really helpful, especially if you are English ! Everyone assumes that you are lost, and are always willing to help out !

Most airports offer free shuttles to local theme parks / water parks / places of interest / shopping malls ! etc, so you not driving shouldn't be an issue in Orlando.

If, reading and previous reccommendation, you do choose to go to Anna MAria Island ( Which is heaven BTW!), they is a free bus / trolley service all around the island from numerous points which can take you catch a bus to the mainland.

Clerwater, St. Pete's, Sarasota etc are all ideal places to go as it's really relaxed and easy going. The fish eateries are great, and you can watch he sun go every evening. You won't want to leave.

If you want to ask anything, please do so, as I've been quite a bit to the area, and I have reletives in Fort Myers who regularly travel up to the area to visit friends and family.

Hope this helps you, Jen x:D

Getting around Disney without a car is easy, there are plenty of Disney buses (although I wouldn't stay until the parks close, as there are long queues then). You can get a bus or taxi if you want to explore outside of Disneyworld. You really must go to Seaworld, and if you like good rollercoasters, then I would recommend visiting Universal's Islands Of Adventure.

I think Virgin do their own coach transfers between Orlando and Clearwater, if you want 2 centres.

Although we liked Clearwater, there isn't much to do apart from the beach. We love Sarasota (further south from Clearwater). There is plenty to do and lovely beaches. But it is hard to get to without a car. sanibel Island is nice and relaxing too.
