Takes some effort to get all the air out of a type.
Yes, as I found out when my ex's neighbour kept parking on her "driveway". Being the good neighbourly sort, I went out to check his tyre pressures and suddenly they were all flat
His brother had been kind enough to clean my passenger side window (with a huge gob of spit), so I returned the favour in kind“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

With my car on a dual-carriage way I leave it in second gear @ 50mph / 5,500RPM's or third gear @ 70mph 5,000RPM down the motorway.
So.... er... putting your foot to the floor and booting it a bit right?
V-Power will make no difference on a car designed to run on 95 octane fuel by the way. The injector treatment (personally used RedX in the past not Forte) isn't a bad call though.

Also, I am sorry to ask this as I do not know even what to google for, but what needs to be done regularly?
There is something called the POWDER check:

and this one is more comprehensive:

I don't understand about V-Power and Forte.
:o:o Are they added with fuel? We run on unleaded, does that count? Where would I get them?
Can I just put them in the tank and the car not be driven straight away? Or do they needed to be added with the petrol?
Actually,:o:o:o:o what are V-Power and Forte?
I am so grateful for all the help, and a bit embarrassed. It's a bit of a closed world to me, but I intend to have a go - and my neighbour is brilliant and will definitely be getting a tray of lager.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -

V-Power is Shell's super unleaded fuel. It's simply higher quality fuel, that's all. It's the best fuel on the market right now. Should cost no more then £5 extra per tank. Granted, its not necessary, but would be very nice to run a tank through the car with some injector cleaner.
FOTRE is a fuel injector cleaner. Comes in a 600ml bottle I think. Comes with a long nozzle so you open your fuel cap, and pour it in to your fuel tank at the petrol station before you fill up. - Think of it as Cilet Bang for cars!
However, there could be different varieties of it, so its best to check before you buy any old FOTRE product.
Hope this helps.

Again, not really. People get the wrong impression when you say "boot it" and "for a bit."
'Boot it' pretty much means "hit the peddle and accelerate beyond the speed limit" lol. I did tell a friend to "boot it" and all he did was accelerate in fith gear. Acceleration is completely different to high RPM's.
Also, 'a bit' usually means a few seconds, an average Joe/Jane (like the OP) will think their car will blow up for going over 4,000RPM's and keeping it there.
I'm just seeing this from the OP's point of view, and explaining it in ways he/she will understand, that's all.0 -
@OP add one more thing to the service list! = CARB CLEANER! I forgot to mention that. It costs around £5 and your neighbour should be able to sort that out in a few minutes.
Edit: I know this is pushing it now but if your neighbour is super awesome, he would also flush out the radiator for you, and put in some new coolant. So to recoup all of the above in one go, for a proper full service you'll need:
Airfilter,
Oil filter,
Fuel filter,
Spark plugs
Fully synthetic oil
Brake fluid + bleed brakes
Carb cleaner
Raditor flush + new coolant
FORTE injector cleaner
Shell V-Power (not necessary, but a plus.)
Hope this helps, I'll leave you alone now!0 -
Supermanjo - honestly, I am so grateful for you helping. I don't even know what half of these things are (or didn't until kind people explained) and you are so clear. You cannot make it too simple
:o:o
I'll speak to the neighbour with your list. I should make it clear, he is a mechanic who mends cars outside his/our house. He will be doing a proper service and I'll make sure that all you have put is included, and I will ask him to show me what to do. He will charge us under the going rate, he always has, eg, re-jigging the windscreen wipers so that the defective one was kept down and the working one covered the majority of the windscreen as a botch job and then reattaching everything and getting it all in order when OH didn't urgently need the car (wiper had come off and he had to go behind the dashboard to fix) and he only asked £10.
The two big problems I have are that I didn't know that these things weren't being done by OH, and I didn't know what to ask for. Thanks to the guidance and help of the kind people on here I can ask my neighbour and I know he will help me out.

MY NAME'S BARRY SCOTT AND IM ABOUT TO TAKE A DUMP IN YOUR FUEL TANK!!!!!
No, please don't put additives into your fuel...... Get the car a basic service and get it running properly before you add external variables. The reason is simple, if something goes wrong, the more stuff you've messed with, the harder it is to trace the fault. Why people think that adding more crap to the equation is going to solve anything, is totally beyond me.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
