Confused About VR & Claiming Benefits

Options
Hi, my partner is looking very likely to be made redundant in the near future, but currently his working life is being made hell. The company have asked for VR, which he is now at the point of submitting a letter of VR. BUT if he does this, will it affect a claim he may make for JSA etc?

Voluntary redundancy is classed as redundancy when claiming benefits and should have no effects whatsoever on his claim.

Of course, his eligibility for mean tested benefits will depend on his savings and total household income.

If he has been working and paying NI contributions during the last two years then he will be able to claim contribution based JSA which is not mean tested.
  • Thanks pmlindyloo, just another quick question, when he sends in a letter of VR, can he ask that he finishes in four weeks, or does it have to be a certain length of time? (i.e. 1 x week for every year he's been there?)

There should be no difference between VR and regular redundancy for it to be a genuine redundancy. the goverment are happy that they are the same for just about everything.

the problem is that PPI and income protection insurance like to use VR as an excuse not to pay out.

The company should pay notice and statutory redundancy based on service.

The problem with wanting to leave early is they don't have to pay the notice.
