Jet2 Flights...

Options
Hi - newbie here with a little issue with our friends from Jet2. Ive recently booked flights online for a holiday later in the year. The process was pretty straight forward, at least so it seamed, the payment went through and the confirmation email arrived. I read through it and it clealry shows the correct price in £'s in bold but underneath in normal text it has the price in Euros and claims i paid in Euro's. At first i thought not too much of it as i thought this might be std practice for Jet2 but when i got my bank statement the actual amount in £'s i'd paid was approx £100 more than the price in £'s stated on the confirmation? (sorry if this is getting confusing!!) To cap it all my bank has charged me a £12 fee for paying in Euro's!!

So in summary a flight that should have cost me £520 has now cost me £620. Ive tried to contact Jet2 but just got nowhere, i'm waiting for a call back, again, today.

Has anyone else had any similar issues?

Thanks in advance.

Jet2 appears to be a British Company

Assuming you are also British, I don't understand why/how you were charged in Euros especially when their own terms state:
3.1...Base fare(s), taxes and charges are payable in the currency in which they are published.
    http://www.jet2.com/Terms.aspx

Whatever, if the amount charged in Euros on the bill is the same as that you were charged (any charge in Euros will be shown in Euros and then translated into GBP), then any issues you have are with the bank not the supplier.
Refer to your banking terms and conditions to see if you have any cause for complaint.

Otherwise, if the amount charged to your account is not the amount you authorised, again contact your bank to arrange an immediate refund.

  • the exact amount i agreed to pay when booking was £524.79. The confirmation came through showing the same amount but below shows Euro721.92. When you check the exchange rate for this 721.92 it comes to approx £600 so the bank have taken the correct amount. Its the fact that they have charged me in euros in the first place thats the issue - this and their seemingly ridiculous exchange rate that gets £524.79 to equate to 721.92Euro.

If you only authorsed a payment of £524.79, then any other charge, especially one in a different currency is not authorised.

Contact your bank to advise them of this unauthorised transaction.

Jet2 shows prices in the currency of the country in which they originate and give you the option of which currency to pay in once you've selected your flights via a drop down box at the top of the page. I suspect what's happened in this case is that when you've gone through to the booking stage you have accidentally and without realising selected to pay in Euros. It's easily done with a drop down box.
Did you really mean to put loose?
Lose: no longer possess, not to retain, unable to find
Loose: not firmly or tightly fixed in place
  • finally had a reply of sorts from Jet2. They claim the default currency is euros and they use their "own" exchange rate hence they get the £524 to equal 721Euros. They've advised if i want to complain i need to write a letter to them and refused to provide me with an email address. Its a simple con in my book and i'm amazed they can get a way with it.

Were you in the UK when you booked the flights?

I booked flights with Jet2 last night and the default currency was GPB. It is right at the top of the screen and wouldn't easily be changed by accident.
