Hi
We would like to go to Japan for a few weeks but looking to stop half way to break the journey up, i have been looking on the net but cant seem to find anywhere without the flight being just as long as it would be straight from London!!
Has anyone got any suggestions or ideas?
Thanks

We made a "stopover" in Singapore on our way back, probably not what you where looking for, but I thought it was definitely worth it to fly a few extra miles to also include this place in the journey!0 -

Try the middle-eastern airlines.Legal team on standby0

Places further north are more like half way than the middle east, although they might have some good prices.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

The mid-way point for a direct flight is somewhere like Siberia, and I doubt if many flights stop there!
If you simply want to break up the journey into two manageable chunks, you could consider a stop-over in Moscow; the Gulf; or even India.0 -
As other posters have said, you could use Middle Eastern airlines such as Emirates and Qatar or prehaps an airline such as Turkish Airways who would stop in Istanbul. If you stay over 24 hours in Istanbul, Turkey then you would most likely find the cost of the ticket would be cheaper than flying direct.
Turkish airlines also fly from regional airports i.e Birmingham.0 -
Helsinki is a lovely city- it's not half-way but it's pretty much on the route you'd take if going direct, so it won't add much to total flying time. You could pop across the water to Tallinn while you're there.0

Also you may want to look at flying from Madrid to Tokyo and back to London. Alitalia was offering this route for an astonishing price of just £256 the other month.

with Aeroflot you get a nice stop in Moscow. They are not as bad as everyone makes them out to be, and now have actually quite a modern fleet. Also Moscow is in fact directly on the route of London to Tokyo, so you will not fly any longer as you would with a direct flight.
Most likely you arrive at Terminal D and fly on from terminal F. D is very modern and brand new, F is a shopping mall from the 80ties. So stick to D, until you need near you flight departure time (takes 15min to walk from one to the other)
And best of all, Aeroflot are likely to be one of the cheapest!0
