    Thanks ilovemycats,

I'm a postgrad, but have to agree with all the 'faffing and piddling about'. If things were more focused, I would find it much easier to cope, but it is when they go off at tangents, or when tutors start making smalltalk when I am trying to concentrate. One even decided to show me a scar on his hand - why?!!

I did my degree by distance learning, and this is probably why I am finding it so difficult. I like to be on my own too much!

Believe it or not, at the end of it all I want to be a teacher. Really difficult to explain, but put me in a class of thirty kids and I am completely chilled out ... maybe because I relate to them better than I do adults?! x

If they arn't sympathetic and you are being penailised for MH problems then this is surely discrimination?
  • If the person you report to is male .. then use the "female problems" excuse ..most guys .. cut the conversation before you have a chance to go into details ..lol .. its always worked for me... i suppose if its female it could also work .. because she might sympathise :D

Not so much that they aren't sympathetic, to be honest I think that they are embarrassed. Also, they don't seem to understand the severity of my condition, they seem to share the common misconception of depression as being 'a bit down'.

Hey ho, I'll just continue in my own little bubble (quite a nice place to be!), and try not to worry about what other people think.

Thanks ever so much everyone, it really is appreciated x

If you'd thought about it a bit more in advance you could have buried a grandparent! NB Do not use this excuse more than 4 times.

having a daughter in her first yr at uni i can totally understand the problems you are having. any prat that says that students have an easy life havent been sat next to my daughter lately! I think that honestly is the best policy cos if you are depressed then when you put the phone down 2morra if you have lied it'll only play on your mind & make you feel worse! If as you say you are keeping up with the work then when you talk to you tutor they will 'understand' & be ok with it. Make sure you talk to someone who knows you not somebody on reception, that way you will get the repect you deserve from your tutor's. After all, i imagine that they have been there somewhere in their career & the uni is a big place, there must be loads of students going thru the same thing. The good thing is you know you need a little bit of extra help & are going about things the right way. i really wish you luck in whatever you are choosing to do. Just remember there are people to help you in uni & of course on forums such as these. Good luck!
