I asked and was told I could drill into UPVC window to install blind or net wire and it would not invalid the guarantee. Has anybody on this forum done it? I just do not fancy the hassle of puttig a curtain rod up and buying net curtains etc. Thanks

Use a spring loaded rod, then you won't need to use any fixings.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
I've drilled into several UPVC windows to fit blinds or repair hinges. There's usually a layer of metal just below the plastic, so you can get a good purchase with self tapping screws.
Couldn't comment on what it might do to your warranty tho...0 -
there's no reason why you cant. basically upvc window profile is a hollow multi chambered material. fix into the outer frame section obviously far enough back to not come through where there is an opening. Use between a 40-50mm screw. This will ensure you go through at least one of the internal walls, but not too far to come out the other side. Most upvc profiles are 60-70mm. They may be reinforced with aluminium or galvanised steel, so go through first with a pilot bit 1mm smaller than the screw you intend to use. If there is no reinforcing, be careful not to overtighten the screw or it can lose its tension. There is no reason why it would invalidate a guarantee. I understand some companies may write this in as a way of getting out of their responsibility, but from a technical point of view its irrelevant.0
